Controversial artworks in Caracas

It has been four weeks since the ailing Hugo Chávez was last seen in Venezuela, but his presence can still be felt on the streets of the capital of Venezuela, Caracas.

Street artists say it is an opportunity to his legacy as they have been painting murals of Chávez and honouring Venezuela’s revolution by sketching a myriad of artworks across the city.

Concurrently, other street artists, like Flix, who has been working for a long time in the city, considers himself as an interventionist rather than a “new street artist of the city”; they try to express themselves trough their paintings as a way to transform Caracas, not only painting political figures but social and cultural thoughts.
